I think it was April when we first saw the lineup for the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Will and I had already pretty much ruled out Bonnaroo for our annual musical pilgrimage - a ritual for the past 4 years (ACL in 05, Bonnaroo in 06 and 07, Willie's 4th of July in 07....more on that later).
Unlike Bonnaroo, ACL has the added benefit of being in the Music Capital of the World, in the great nation of Texas. After ACL released the killer lineup for 2008's iteration, it took mere minutes for this Pavlovian bitch to start salivating for Austin's amenities, including Lone Star Beer, Stubb's Barbeque, and Waterloo Records.
When Will's now-fiance declined to join us on this pilgrimage, disappointment soon turned to fear. Not the kind of fear associated with a potential relationship breakup - Will and Remy are doing just fine. No, this is the kind of fear associated with a long incarceration in a Texas jail. See, when Will and I get together, all the rules of decency and legality seem to just vanish. This blog will hopefully capture the steps leading up to, but not during, that incarceration. Or at least recount some of the energy of the bands we hope to see at the festival. But I digress....
Will came up with some crazy idea to invite Chadwick (aka Napolean). God only knows why, but anyways, he's joining us as a virgin on this trip. A childhood friend of mine, and a more recent DC roommate, Chad is DANGEROUS. A man of few scruples and morals looser than a one-legged toothless Pigtown whore, we're happy to have him with us on what hopefully will be a sordid affair.
I had bought an extra ticket for my lady friend, but the poor woman decided to choose education over enlightenment. She will be sorely missed. At that juncture, I decided to round out the list of losers and invite my fellow partner in crime, Brad (aka B-rad).
So that's it. This motley crew will attempt to find a keyboard throughout the day each day at the festival, try to see past the booze-induced blurred vision, and offer some sort of semblance of the English language for you all, or none, to read. Enjoy!
